President of Belarus Inaugurates the Stadler Plant
The Swiss Stadler Rail Group is a leader in the European electric train industry. A joint venture with Belarus BelKOmunMash, a Belarusian manufacturer of electric public transport vehicles, has been set up to create the OAO Electric Transport that will combine the best Swiss and Belarus products and practices.
Astron has been entrusted with the delivery of the 29,650m² steel building for their new factory near Minsk. The new plant is part of a large-scale project.
During the grand opening, the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, stated: “We are taking part in a remarkable event, the launch of a brand new production of modern electric trains. Only two years ago we put a symbolic capsule at the base of the future building, and today we see an operating plant. This is the result of the aligned teamwork of builders, engineers and management of Stadler, who all deserve significant credit. And worthy of note is the fact that it took the shortest possible time from idea to final realization.” A new generation of electric trains – the first of which will be delivered to Moscow for the Aeroexpress project – will become the hallmark of the new plant. In the future Stadler Minsk plans to produce public transport vehicles.
Today Stadler Minsk employs 600 people, in the future there will be more than a thousand jobs.
